Over the years, technology has become one of the most powerful tools that enable teachers to engage with students in so many different ways we never thought possible. It has become an essential part of teaching that helps with supporting our diverse learners, exceptional students, and our ESL students. Technology offers many ways to support and allows us to use different strategies that students can use to help make learning fun and engaging all while supporting the student needs. Using technology in the classroom allows for personalized learning platforms that allows the students to adapt to instructional content at their own pace and the support that they need for each student. It also allows for students to use different assistive technology tools that students can use to fully engage, participate and learn the content.
This extension offers features like text-to-speech, highlighting, and voice notes. It assists students with reading difficulties, making digital text more accessible. This extension is great for students to do assignments independently and at their own pace. If they have difficulty reading a word they can highlight the word and it will read it to them. It can read just a few words, one sentence, or a whole paragraph. It also allows for students to translate words they are unfamiliar with. This is a great extension that can benefit many students in many different ways. I would implement using this technology when doing independent reading work. Read and write allows for students to taken notes highlight throughout the assignment. It also allows students to use pictures for words they do not know. Another great feature is talk to text. A student can speak into the microphone and it would allow the student to express themselves. It would help the students with reading passages or words they are having difficulty with.
Summit K12 is a great tool for ESL students. This tool allows students that are struggling with reading and writing. It supports student by helping to close the gap and strengthen their learning. It goes back to the basic and allows students to work at their own pace and retry the lesson on which they did not do well on. It assess the students for reading and writing and listening and speaking. This is great to use with bilingual kids to get them ready for their TELPAS test. There is different sections that students can work on based on how they did on their assessment.
